What could have been next for Remy if FBI: Most Wanted season 7 happened?

Remy retired at the end of FBI: Most Wanted, but what could have happened had season 7 happened?

The end of FBI: Most Wanted brought us closure for many characters. One of those was Remy Scott, who joined the Fugitive Task Force as the team leader back in the third season, after Jess LaCroix was killed in the line of duty.

At the end of FBI: Most Wanted season 6, Remy announced that he was retiring. While he could have asked Isobel to extend his time with the FBI rather than be forced into retirement due to his age, he wanted to step back from the job this year and run his restaurant with Abby. That left Barnes open to take over the Fugitive Task Force.

Remy was always going to retire in FBI: Most Wanted

The retirement storyline was something written in as closure for FBI: Most Wanted. Had the series not been canceled, the episode was going to see Remy decide to stick with the job, according to TV Insider, and he was going to learn that there was an escaped fugitive on the loose, which would have been the cliffhanger ending leading into FBI: Most Wanted season 7.

“Remy [Dylan McDermott] would have re-upped for another year as Task Force leader and the cliffhanger in the season finale would have been a big ‘white whale’ fugitive who gets away — only to be captured in the following season.”

While the writers hadn’t started talking about a seventh season storyline, it’s clear that this was the starting point. They wanted a bigger chase, which would certainly put the term “Most Wanted” to the test.

In the end, the writers had time to change plans to create closure, leading to the retirement storyline. That does mean that Barnes wasn’t supposed to takeover as leader in FBI: Most Wanted season 7.

What could have happened had Remy retired?

What if FBI: Most Wanted season 7 was saved after that ending was crafted? How could the story have gone then?

We could have seen the Fugitive Task Force use Remy’s restaurant as a place to gather after tough cases. Most other TV shows have a bar or a single location that is a great outlet for them, and it allows us to see that the team likes to socialize together as well as work together. This could have kept Remy in the loop when it came to cases, even with people asking his advice about a task at hand.

Having Barnes come in for advice would be a great way for him to continue passing on that baton. The two did have a difficult start, but they have learned how to respect each other, and by the end of FBI: Most Wanted season 5, they were turning to each other for personal advice. I would have loved to see that continue even with Remy no longer with the FBI.

FBI: Most Wanted is available to stream on Paramount+.
