The end of SWAT saw a promotion for Victor Tan. What could that have meant had we seen SWAT season 9 happen? Where could his story have gone?

Tan ended up as the Mayoral Liaison for SWAT in the series finale. At first, it wasn’t a position that he was interested in, but then he saw a benefit to it, and it would certainly be good for his career. In the final moments, he is raving about some of the things he’s seen in the meeting rooms.

SWAT season 9 nearly happened, as Sony wasn’t ready for the series to end. However, we will now get a spinoff instead, but what could have been?

Gang Unit
“Gang Unit” – When a spree of brutal stash house robberies spills into L.A., 20-Squad must team up with the sheriff’s department’s gang unit to unmask a violent crew who leaves no witness alive, on S.W.A.T., Friday, Oct. 25 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on-demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on-demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs)*. Tan could have had side projects in SWAT season 9

While Tan was still a member of 20-Squad in SWAT season 8, we could have seen more of his work on the side. The Mayoral Liaison position would have opened more doors for his arc, seeing a growth in his work as an officer as he learned more diplomatic skills. This could have been great for a promotion in the future.

It would have certainly allowed for a few more episodes focused on just him. Tan was often forgotten about in the last two seasons of SWAT, but every now and then, we got the reminder of the way he grew from the beginning of the series. He even connected with Miko despite not wanting him on 20-Squad at first.

All That Glitters
“All that Glitters” – Following a string of violent home robberies, the team rushes to stop a crew targeting elderly victims. Also, Hondo’s longtime friend and former Marine squad leader Danny Wright (guest star Taye Diggs) turns to Hondo for help when his daughter goes missing, on S.W.A.T., Friday, May 5 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+*. Tan could have found love again in SWAT

Tan went through hell with Bonnie, and I’m still annoyed at the way the show did that couple dirty. After getting married, Bonnie cheated on Tan and eventually left him. It left Tan heartbroken, and he had to work through that pain while still working and trying to protect the people of Los Angeles.

He did start to find love again, but nothing was mentioned about it in the end. SWAT season 9 could have been a chance to see him get that chance at love again, and it would have been great for those watching who have been through something similar.

Considering he has the Mayoral Liaison position as well as being part of 20-Squad, there could even be a need for him to learn how to balance his work and his personal life. And I would love to see him interact with his mom more, as she was always a treat to see on screen.

SWAT is available to stream on Netflix and Paramount+.
