There are no more new episodes of Chicago PD in 2024 (but here's when it returns)

Chicago PD is taking another Wednesday off. In some terrible news, we'll have to wait until 2025 for new episodes.

It’s bad news for the Chicago PD fans out there. There isn’t a new episode on tonight, Wednesday, Dec. 4. The entire One Chicago lineup is off again.

The terrible news is that we won’t have any more new episodes of Chicago PD in 2024. There may be a few reruns here and there on the network, but the show won’t officially return until 2025.

The Wednesday before Thanksgiving week saw the airing of the fall finale. It is earlier than we’ve seen in recent years, but the schedule is back to what it was before the pandemic. We always dealt with a fairly long winter hiatus.

When will Chicago PD return with new episodes?

The good news is that NBC has set the January return dates. Chicago PD is one of the first shows to return in the new year. Chicago PD season 12, episode 9 will air on Wednesday, Jan. 8. It will air at the usual time of 10 p.m. ET/PT, following new episodes of Chicago Med and Chicago Fire.

The last we left Intelligence, they were somewhat fractured. The team learned about Torres’s relationship with Gloria. They also learned that Burgess knew all about it, and that’s led to some questions about their futures. Torres sleeping with a confidential informant is against the law. Not only could it see him lose his job but also arrested. Burgess keeping that secret could see her imprisoned too.

Then there’s the fact that Voight has also covered it up. The entire team decided to cover it up and deal with the situation. Of course, Deputy Chief Reid knows the truth, and he will use that against Voight when he needs to.

What to expect when Chicago PD returns

So, when the show returns, we’re sure to see Reid call in on a few favors. Those favors are sure to involve something illegal. Voight has shown that he will do questionable things for his team, so why not for others?

However, Intelligence will have a case that doesn’t involve Reid. Two girls have been kidnapped and the kidnappers are demanding a ransom. Voight knows that they’re in a race against time to get the girls back, and he will stop at nothing to save them.

Chicago PD returns on Wednesday, Jan. 8 at 10/9c on NBC. Catch up the following day on Peacock.
