Thursday nights have become great for crime drama fans. If you want something lighter, you’ll turn to CBS for its night of powerful women, ending with Elsbeth.
There is some bad news, though. Elsbeth isn’t on tonight, Thursday, Nov. 21. Not only will it not air a new episode tonight, but there won’t be a rerun on tonight, either. This break is a relatively long one compared to what we like, but nothing like the upcoming winter hiatus that we’ll need to deal with soon.
Why isn’t CBS airing a new episode of Elsbeth tonight?
What’s with the lack of new episode? You can thank the holiday season. CBS has opted for a special run of Nugget Is Dead? A Christmas Story tonight, Thursday, Nov. 21. This is a two-hour movie that brings the story of a woman who changes her Christmas plans when her dog ends up sick. What will we do for our four-legged best friends?
But that’s just two hours, right? Why can’t there be a new episode of Elsbeth to end the night? Well, there’s reruns of the two Thursday comedies instead. It makes sense not to have a new episode of Elsbeth after a special. It throws the schedule off, and it can lead to a dip in the linear ratings, which puts the show at risk.
When will Elsbeth return with new episodes?
This is where we have a little more bad news. There won’t be a new episode next Thursday, either. When you consider it’s Thanksgiving, that won’t be too surprising. The broadcast networks know that there are slim chances of people tuning in live for new episodes of their favorite shows. This is a time to spend with family and (usually) watch the football. So, there won’t be a new episode.
There will be a new episode on Thursday, Dec. 5. It will air at the usual time of 10 p.m. ET/PT after a night of comedy and Matlock.
We don’t have details of the new episode just yet, which isn’t too surprising. CBS will share details closer to the time.
Elsbeth airs on Thursdays at 10/9c on CBS. Catch up the following day on Paramount+.
