It’s that time of year when the TV shows start to go on their breaks. Although we have to admit that right now is early for the shows. Yet, High Potential season 2 is now on its winter break, and we have to wait until 2026 for new episodes.
The previous episode was the fall finale, and it was a major episode. The Major Crimes unit had to deal with an art heist, which is strange timing for an episode considering the recent events with the Louvre. Sometimes, art predicts life.
We’re used to seeing the cases solved by the end of the episode, but that wasn’t the case with this one. Instead, there were twists, turns, and a dead body to finish up the episode, getting us ready for the show’s return in 2026.
High Potential is on the move in January 2026
The good news is we don’t have to wait too long for the show’s return. High Potential season 2 episode 8 will air on Tuesday, Jan. 6. It is on the move, though, and in a good way.
The series will move to the 9 p.m. ET/PT timeslot, similar to how ABC shifted the show in January 2025 when it returned from its winter break then. This is due to the way Tuesday nights open up for scripted programming, as Dancing with the Stars comes to an end.
Tuesdays are all about quirky crime dramas once more for ABC. Will Trent will start the night, leading into High Potential and The Rookie. This lineup was a huge success for all three shows, so it’s easy to see why ABC is doing it again.
What to expect in High Potential season 2 episode 8
While there is a wait, we do have a promo to see what to expect! Yes, it’s clear that filming got ahead, and that this break was well planned. To be honest, I have a feeling with the way the episodes aired that High Potential thought the premiere would be a week later than it was, since the Halloween episode was a week early.
The promo gives us a look at what Morgan will do with the information she gained at the end of the fall finale. She saw a scar on Rhys’s shoulder that matches the bullet wound the art thief once got. Of course, Karadec wants to know how she saw the scar, but that’s not the big thing here. She tells Karadec what she saw rather than keeping it to herself, which breaks the usual TV tropes, and I love it.
However, the team will need to deal with a murder as well as an art heist. The curator has turned up murdered, but it couldn’t be Rhys. So, who is Jean Baptiste, and what is Rhys really up to?
