It probably isn’t that surprising to hear that Prime Video is getting into the crime drama genre. This remains one of the most popular genres for TV. Amazon has teamed up with Wolf Entertainment to bring the new series On Call.
This is done slightly differently to other crime dramas. The episodes are just 30 minutes long, packing in a lot of crime and character development in a short space of time. You certainly feel like you’re in the drama the whole time!
On top of that, the shots bring you into the moment. Most of the story is told through the use of body cam, police car camera, and cell phone camera shots. This offers a different form of storytelling for those who want to feel like they’re closer to the action.
On Call cast
For some people, knowing who is in the cast is important. This can lead to people tuning in to watch, even if they wouldn’t have usually given the show a chance. On Call has an outstanding cast, with new and veteran faces.
Troian Bellisario leads the cast as Traci Harmon. She’s a veteran police office, but she isn’t liked by everyone. There are rumors that she can’t be trusted, and she’s struggling to find her place within the precinct. She is also tasked with training some of the new blood.
The new blood is Alex Diaz, played by Brandon Larracuente. He is eager to jump into the action, but he soon learns the real police work. He graduated second in his class, and he wants to prove that he has what it takes. Now he needs to decide whether he is going to trust his training officer, or if he’s going to follow the example of others in the precinct.
The cast is rounded out with:
Eriq La Salle as Sergeant Lasman
Lori Loughlin as Lieutenant Bishop
Robert Bailey Jr. as Officer Holt
Rich Ting as Sergeant Tyson Koyama
Lobo Sebastian as Smokey
Monica Raymund is a noteworthy guest star in the series. She will play Officer Maria Delgado. According to IMDb, she’s only credited for one episode. Will this explain why Harmon isn’t trusted? Did the two have a falling out of some sort?
On Call drops in full on Thursday, Jan. 9 on Prime Video.
