We knew On Call would put the focus on finding a cop killer after the events in the opening moments. Would Harmon get justice, and what would happen between her and Lasman, who seemed to have it out for her?

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS from On Call season 1.

On Call season 1 opened with the death of Officer Delgado. Harmon knew she needed to find the killer of her fallen friend, but she had other issues within the police force. She had a new rookie to train, and Sergeant Lasman seemed to have it out for her.

There was a point in the season that it looked like Harmon would get a transfer to Sergeant Koyama’s team, but that doesn’t happen. Did Sergeant Lasman stop the transfer and subsequent promotion?

Who stopped Traci Harmon’s transfer in On Call?

Koyama told Harmon that someone “higher up” stopped the transfer, and naturally, Harmon blamed Lasman. It turned out that an altercation between Lasman’s former partner and Harmon led to the former partner being fired and Lasman not getting a promotion. Lasman seems to have always blamed Harmon for that, with everyone believing that she put in an official complaint.

That wasn’t the case. She wouldn’t do that, but she did decide to confront Lasman about the situation. He shared that he didn’t prevent the transfer.

If you wondered what Eriq La Salle was talking about when he said that everyone thinks Lasman did something but it was Bishop, this was it. She stopped Harmon getting the promotion, using Harmon using illegal means to get Maniac’s whereabouts against her.

Who was Maniac? It turned out that he was the one who killed Delgado. A gang member named Smokey ended up giving up his whereabouts, and people went after him in revenge. On top of that, Diaz’s brother, who was in prison for armed robbery, also had an attack put on him by the gang inmates in the prison when they learned Diaz was working the case.

The connection between Harmon and Delgado explained

Harmon and Delgado weren’t close friends. It turned out that Delgado was one of Harmon’s rookies, and she feared that her training methods got Delgado killed.

This was why at the end of On Call that she decided not to agree to Diaz passing his probation. He put his life at risk at the end, and Harmon realized that maybe it was her training methods that would led to more deaths on the force.

Diaz was naturally angry at first. Then he realized why he didn’t pass probation, and he accepted it, realizing that it was his get out of jail free card Harmon said she offered all rookies.

Did Harmon and Diaz get Delgado’s killer in On Call?

After tracking down Maniac, Harmon and Diaz do manage to get justice for Delgado.

They also managed to capture Smokey, who initially helped to coverup Maniac’s involvement. He was going to kill himself, but after learning that his daughter was gone as well, he decided that there was no point running or hiding anymore. He handed himself in.

It seems like it’s case closed. If On Call doesn’t get a second season, this is arguably a good place to stop it. The season-long storyline is done. However, there is clearly more to say in the series, so with some hope, it will get renewed.

On Call is available to stream on Prime Video.
