While the bad news is that the One Chicago franchise is heading on its Winter Olympic break, there is something exciting to look forward to. When Chicago PD returns in March 2026, it will be with the three-hour crossover event.
After the last Chicago Med episode before the break, the promo for the crossover event was released. Not only did it give us a look at the emergency that we'd get to witness, but it also told us that two Chicago PD characters are finally coming back!
Which Chicago PD characters will return for the One Chicago crossover?
At the end of the promo, we saw Jay Halstead. Then the camera panned to the person who he was speaking with, and it was none other than Haley Upton.
Halstead left just three episodes into Chicago PD season 10, while Upton exited the series at the end of season 11. The two had been married, but with Halstead's exit, we learned that he was ghosting his wife and Upton had no choice but to file for divorce so that she could move forward with her life.
We have all wanted to get some answers, angry that the writers seemed to completely change Halstead's character due to the exit. Now that closure looks like it could happen, but will it end up with forgiveness or the two going their separate ways?
With some hope, we'll also find out what Upton is now doing with her life. When she left the CPD, it was to pastures new. However, we had no idea which side of law enforcement she chose — or even if that was the adventure she would go on — and there's been no update since, so now is the time to find out.
What's the emergency on the One Chicago crossover event
The promo for the three-hour event also gives us a look at the emergency. It starts at an airfield, but it doesn't look like it stays there.
As victims are taken to Med, we see an explosion. If you pause the promo, you'll be able to see clearly that it's a body that is exploding, which suggests that this is a much bigger criminal investigation. This would explain why Intelligence is pulled into the call.
The downside is that we have to wait three weeks for the episode. The three shows are heading on their Winter Olympic break, and they'll take an extra week off at the end of February, before returning with this epic crossover event. It's clear that it will be worth it.
