Has Alex fallen under Wilford's spell in Snowpiercer?

While there was a rush to escape on Big Alice, Alex decided that she wasn’t leaving in Snowpiercer Season 4, Episode 5. While many believe that she is back under Wilford’s spell, that’s unlikely the case.

Alex, admittedly, has a connection to Wilford. She views him as her savior. Not only did he make sure she was on Big Alice when it departed, but he also saved her from the cart that he was disconnecting during the cull. She thought that she owed him everything, and she allowed him to get inside her head, turning her against her own mother.

Alex broke free of that, though. She saw what he was actually doing to people, and she decided that she needed to save humanity. That led to her working with Melanie and Layton, and eventually choosing to leave with Layton to get to Big Alice.

Alex is a scientific person in Snowpiercer

While it could seem like Alex has fallen for Wilford’s charms again, that’s unlikely the case. Earlier this season, Alex pointed out that she didn’t have the emotional attachment to the bird that others thought she did. He wasn’t a pet but a colleague, collecting scientific data for her.

Alex is a scientist. She wants to understand what is going on with New Eden, and she wants to make sure the colony is saved. Rather than stay at New Eden, she decided to go on the journey to save Liana, but it wasn’t because of a connection to Liana or Layton. It was to collect data.

It’s clear that she can gain more by being in the silo than she can on Big Alice, or even on Snowpiercer. While in the silo, there’s a chance that she can find her mother and work with her. Nima clearly knows something, so there’s a chance Alex can work with him. He even brought up the nosebleeds, which she’s only mentioned to Javi before. Those nosebleeds mean something, and she needs to understand them. Of course she’s going to want to stick around the person who may be able to give her answers.

Alex staying behind at the silo also makes sense for the general story. Should they need an engineer, they have one through Alex. They’ve lost Ben and Miles now, and Melanie is doing her research elsewhere.
