Athena's plane suffers a midair collision in 911 season 8, episode 2
Athena did not have a good time in 911 season 8, episode 2 thanks to a midair emergency that caused her to take control of the plane she was on. As we got to know the passengers on board Keystone Air Flight 63, we were rooting for them all to be okay.
The second episode of the three-part season opener got into the plane emergency that was teased at the end of the premiere episode. After being struck by a small plane due to a swarm of bees, the plane had two holes in the ceiling, one in the cockpit area and one in coach. Because of the hole, the pilot was ejected from the plane and the co-pilot was knocked unconscious.
Athena, who had been preparing to talk to the pilots about needing LAPD support once they landed in LA, was the only one nearby who could call for help as the plane began to rapidly descend. She managed to call 911, reaching Josh and Maddie, who were both stunned to learn what was happening.
How was Athena able to control the plane in 911 season 8, episode 2?
Eventually, Athena managed to get ahold of Air Traffic Control, who were familiar faces from the season 5 premiere episode, “Panic.” This time, instead of being the call victims, they were there to help Athena as best they could.
Once the 118 found out what was happening, they were tasked with having the passengers aid those who had become injured on the flight. It was a moment that showed what this series was about, people helping those in need. Amazingly enough, Athena managed to get help from a boy named Jem, who loved planes due to playing video games.
Of course, this didn’t mean she didn’t need a pilot. Unfortunately by the end of the episode, not even the co-pilot was able to help. Athena was now on her own, with no pilot to land and a hole in the roof that was getting worse.
Honorable mentions:
- The 118 had a dance party once Gerrard was taken to the hospital, which didn’t exactly help Buck, who didn’t know how to feel about the events that transpired.
- There was a meet cute on the plane and an adorable older couple whose various ailments ended up saving the day…for now.
- Dennis apparently knows the names of people involved in sex trafficking and we can see this arc being brought up further down the line as the season progresses.
- Athena left Bobby a heartbreaking voicemail, which he listened to just as he found out about the emergency. Plus, Buck arriving to get him confirmed his wife was involved. Then they stole a firetruck together. Can anyone say throwback Thursday to the pilot episode?
- We still have one more episode to go and Athena needs a pilot. Is a young boy landing the plane or is our speculation about a certain pilot, aka Tommy Kinard, correct?
This was another great episode from 911 and we’re excited to see how they finish off the three-part opener before diving into the rest of the season!
