Law & Order: Organized Crime is coming back for Season 4, and Bell is in for an encounter with a frenemy! Find out more here!
Season 3 of Law & Order: Organized Crime was a rough one for Sergeant Ayanna Bell (Danielle Moné Truitt). Her dedication to the job cost her her marriage and often got her in trouble with the higher-ups. At one point, the Organized Crime task force was being threatened with being shut down and Bell forced to take a promotion she didn’t want. She did manage to come through to save it, but the season finale had Bell shaken when Whelan was killed in the line of duty.
Season 4 picks up a few months later as Stabler (Christopher Meloni) has returned from a long undercover assignment. Speaking to TV Insider, Truitt shared that the season opens with Bell seeing some much-needed therapy while helping the rest of the squad cope with the loss of Whelan.
A big dynamic is that Bell brings in an advisor with a new AI program that Bell thinks can help predict the moves of criminal gangs and let the cops be a step ahead. Given Stabler is an old-school cop, he’s wary of it, while Jet (Ainsley Seiger) is naturally more open to it. Truitt shared that it’s likely Bell hopes this new program could prevent a tragedy like Whelan.
"I think that’s probably a lesson for Bell to learn, that she can’t fix everything, but she’s bringing the AI guy in to help with a different way of policing that could have possibly saved Jamie if we would’ve been doing it that way. And I think that’s her way of trying to make things right with what happened."
Bell will also be challenged in a different way with a figure from her past coming back into her life.
Who is Bell’s frenemy in Law & Order: Organized Crime Season 4?
Truitt shared that part of the season will involve Bell interacting with a Hate Crimes Division captain with whom she shares a long history. They’re forced to work together when a hate crime against Muslims occurs in the midst of an investigation into a fentanyl smuggling operation.
"She’s the captain of the Hate Crimes division, and back in the day, they came up in the academy together. They got in a full on fight in the academy, and so they’ve always kind of bumped heads. A situation comes up where Hate Crimes is involved and she’s a captain, so she uses her rank to put Bell in her place, but then Bell gets a chance — ain’t anybody going to put Bell in her place, okay?"
Truitt is hopeful that Season 4 can show more of Bell’s personal life and put her on a better track. Either way, it looks like the tough boss is ready for more of the drama Season 4 of Law & Order: Organized Crime provides.
Law & Order: Organized Crime Season 4 premieres on Thursday, Jan. 18 at 10/9c on NBC.
