Snowpiercer has left us shook with another intense episode. It looks like we’ve said goodbye to another OG character in the final season.
Caution: This post contains MAJOR SPOILERS for Snowpiercer Season 4, Episode 5.
The new episode saw Layton have to make a choice. He could hand over Big Alice in return for his daughter. He did turn to Ruth and Alex to get their support, and in the end, he chose to do it. Liana was the reason they were all there in the first place.
However, we knew people would want to get Big Alice back to New Eden. That was especially the case when they learned Wilford had been working with Milius all along. So, it wasn’t surprising to see Ben, Till, Ruth, and Alex work together to find a way out of where they were being held captive.
Ben makes the ultimate sacrifice to free Big Alice in Snowpiercer Season 4, Episode 5
Ben and Till were able to work together to get a few people to Big Alice. This included Miles, which was an important plot point when you consider the way the episode comes to an end. They would need an engineer to drive the train!
Alex decided to stay behind. She clearly wants to know more about her nosebleeds, and she can do more research at the silo. Meanwhile, Layton and Josie were stuck at other parts of the silo/Snowpiercer. Ruth was the only other one to be able to get to Big Alice.
It wasn’t as simple as disconnecting the two trains, though. Ben needed to do a manual override, and that’s when it sunk in for everyone. Ruth pointed out that there was no manual override inside the train and there were no suits. He would have to go outside without protection, and they were exiting the silo at this point. Till raced to the door at the base of Big Alice to watch as Ben opened his section to get to the latch.
Till could just watch as Ben succumbed to the freezing temperatures. While he did manage to unlatch the trains, he wasn’t able to get back inside. In a way, the ending is reminiscent of that For All Mankind Season 2 finale, which was just as heartbreaking.
Could Ben come back in Snowpiercer?
Of course, we’ve seen characters freeze and come back to life. That happened with Josie back in the first season. There is a chance that Ben could be saved, but that’s unlikely to happen. Ben is too much of a liability to Milius, so he won’t want to bring Ben back. He only wants people he can control. The only reason he may consider it is if there’s a way Ben can become some sort of test dummy for his own Animal Squad.
I have a feeling this was the end of the track for Ben in Snowpiercer Season 4. At least he got to die a hero.
