CBS new shows for 2024: What we know about NCIS: Origins so far
CBS has confirmed a few new shows for the 2024–2025 TV season. One of those is NCIS: Origins, a prequel of the hit series.
This is a show that has had some great casting announcements, both of characters we’d already come to know and love and new characters to flesh out the story of the time. It’s time to look at everything we know about this new series, which we know is happening. CBS ordered this straight to series.
Who will star in NCIS: Origins?
Mark Harmon will be back, but not on the screen. The prequel series is an origin story for Leroy Jethro Gibbs, and we know that Mark Harmon will narrate it. It’s a little like how Jim Parsons narrates Young Sheldon.
Sean Harmon won’t reprise his role as a young Gibbs. However, the Harmon father and son team are EPs on the series. It makes sense since Sean Harmon played Young Gibbs in numerous episodes of the flagship series.
Austin Stowell will take on the role of Young Gibbs instead. This will take place as Gibbs joins Mike Franks’s NCIS team, and it’s just after the murders of Shannon and Kelly.
The following cast members are part of NCIS: Origins:
Mariel Molino as Special Agent Lala Dominguez
Kyle Schmid as Mike Franks
Dainy Rodriguez as Special Agent Vera Strickland
Tyla Abercrumbie as Field Operation Support Officer Mary Jo Sullivan
Robert Taylor as Jackson Gibbs
Daniel Bellomy as Special Agent Granville “Granny” Dawson
Caleb Martin Foote as Special Agent Benjamin “Randy” Randolf
When will NCIS: Origins premiere?
CBS hasn’t set the fall 2024 schedule just yet, but we are expecting this prequel series to be in the schedule. There are still questions surrounding NCIS: Hawaii at the moment, and that could be because CBS plans to give the Monday 10 p.m. ET/PT timeslot to this prequel series. It makes sense to have it follow on from the flagship series.
What to expect in the NCIS prequel
This is a series that we expect to follow the standard procedural format for storytelling. After all, we’ll see Gibbs join Franks’s team, and that means plenty of cases for the team to solve.
We’ve heard of how important Franks was in helping Gibbs forge a career as a federal agent. This is a chance to see that happen. We’ll get to see Franks’s rules when it comes to working, and we’ll see how Franks helps Gibbs deal with grief and loss.
The show is set in 1991. While there are female agents on the team, this is very much a male-dominated area. This will mean we have a chance to see how the women needed to adapt at the time to prove they were in the right field.
