CBS renews NCIS for its 22nd season (What about NCIS: Hawaii?)
CBS is on a role with renewals. Shortly off the back of the FBI franchise being renewed, CBS offered NCIS fans some good news. Season 22 is officially happening.
Deadline brought the great news about the renewal. This isn’t that much of a surprising renewal. The series is the No. 2 drama on TV, trailing just Tracker, another CBS series. That’s in the Live+7 ratings.
In the same-day ratings, the series is 7th in the demo and fourth in the total audience out of all shows on the network. It’s fourth in the demo and third in the audience when the dramas are only taken into account. With its continuous strong performance on a Monday, it wouldn’t make sense for CBS to cancel the series.
Is NCIS: Hawaii renewed for Season 4?
When CBS renewed FBI, it renewed the two spin-off shows at the same time. That’s not the case with NCIS. We’re still waiting on news about NCIS: Hawaii.
It’s likely that NCIS: Hawaii will be renewed for a fourth season. While the series is lower than the flagship series in the ratings, it is still a strong performer, especially for its timeslot on Mondays at 10 p.m. ET/PT. The series even ticked up in the ratings this season compared to the second season in the same day linear ratings. That would suggest CBS will renew the show.
The fear for some fans will be that the prequel series NCIS: Origins has been ordered straight-to-series. This would pair well with the flagship series, but will it mean that Hawaii is canceled or will it just be moved to another night? After all, slots on Fridays are opening up for a schedule change.
Of course, the linear ratings aren’t the only factor considered for renewing a show. The cost of producing the series is also taken into account. The good thing for Hawaii is that it will be one of the more affordable shows on the network, and that should help to keep it going for a little longer.
NCIS: Hawaii is not the only show still waiting for a renewal. The Equalizer, CSI: Vegas, and So Help Me Todd are shows that are still on the bubble. Some shows will be left until May for an official decision to be made so that the shows can be held up against pilots that have been ordered. We’ll be keeping a close eye on the CBS schedule.
