Chicago Med vet steps into FBI: International after Luke Kleintank's exit

With one cast member out, another one comes in. FBI: International may have already found its replacement lead in a Chicago Med vet.

It’s one out, one in when it comes to the Dick Wolf shows. FBI: International is losing Luke Kleintank, but it’s gaining a Chicago Med vet.

The news of Kleintank leaving the series as Special Agent Scott Forrester is surprising in terms of not expecting yet another member of the Fly Team to leave this season. However, when you look at his reasoning why, it’s not all that surprising personally.

Kleintank’s wife welcomed their first child into the world last year, leading to Forrester being missing from a few episodes of International while Kleintank took paternity leave. With his family in the United States and filming taking place across Europe, it wasn’t all too shocking to learn that he wanted to be close to his child.

It does mean that there’s room on the Fly Team for a new team member—and potentially new leader. While we would love to see Cameron Vo take over as leader, she is a little on the young and inexperienced side. She only just became Forrester’s No. 2 due to the exit of Heida Reed’s Jamie Kellett.

Colin Donnell joins FBI: International

Chicago Med star Colin Donnell will join the cast, according to TVLine. He will come into the final two episodes of the season, starting with the episode airing on Tuesday, May 14. This is the first episode without Kleintank. With Donnell coming into the show potentially as Forrester’s replacement, it does suggest that Kleintank’s exit has been known behind the scenes for some time.

There are no details about Donnell’s character. It’s worth noting that Chicago Med and FBI: International are in the same universe, despite being on different networks. Chicago PD’s Upton crossed over into FBI to work with OA at one point, cementing the two worlds together. Could it mean that Donnell’s Dr. Connor Rhodes could come into FBI: International? That would be quite a career change.

Instead, the show is likely hoping that you’ll just forget that Med and International are in the same universe. There is a chance that those who watch International don’t like medical dramas, so wouldn’t know who Dr. Rhodes is. That could help to remove some of the confusion. Those who do know him as Rhodes will just have to forget Med for a while. The writers could certainly add some jokes in there about him being a doctor in a past life.
