Chicago PD hasn't picked Upton's replacement yet
We know someone new needs to join Intelligence in Chicago PD Season 12. It looked like the series was setting up Petrovic to take that spot, but that isn’t confirmed just yet.
Replacing a character like Upton is never going to be easy. In fact, there is no replacement for her. It’s just someone to take the spot that was left open. Upton’s relationship with Voight is something that nobody else will be able to match.
However, someone can come in with a completely different dynamic and shake up the team. It looked like Petrovic could be that person. So, is it going to happen in Chicago PD Season 12?
Petrovic still looks like the likely candidate in Chicago PD Season 12
TVLine reports that nothing has been set in stone just yet. In a recent Inside Line, Matt Webb Mitvoch shared that the last he spoke to the show’s showrunner, Gwen Sigan, the writers hadn’t gone back to the writer’s room. There had been no formal discussions, and they would happen when the writers got back to work.
By now, the writers will be back at work. A decision will be being made, but that doesn’t mean we get to find out who is joining the team permanently just yet. Chicago PD may want to try to keep this a secret all the way until the premiere in the fall.
It does look like Petrovic may be the choice, though. She is the obvious once considering Voight sought her out to help with the serial killer case and she got to work with the team. While most of that was with Upton, she knows how the team works and this can help her step into the team on a full-time basis.
Sigan also only had good things to say about Bojana Novakovic, which offers hope that we’ll get to see her back.
"But I loved Petrovic on the show this season. I think that [Bojana Novakovic] was such a pro and she made [the role] her own. There’s so much depth to that character and it was acted wonderfully."
