Chicago PD reveals Petrovic's secret (what does it mean for the character?)

As Chicago PD gets ready to say goodbye to Upton, eyes are on her potential replacement. We questioned whether SVU detective Josephine Petrovic would be that replacement.

The promo wanted us to think that there was something suspicious about Petrovic, maybe even that she was potentially linked to the serial killer. While she is hiding a secret, it wasn’t that she is the villain of the overall story.

What is Petrovic’s secret in Chicago PD?

It turns out that Petrovic is a functioning alcoholic. Upton figured that out, making it clear that living with an alcoholic for 18 years meant that she knew all the signs. Alcoholics think that cough drops mask the smell of alcohol, but that is not the case.

While Upton confronted Petrovic, she decided not to report the detective. This is an interesting turn of events, as usually, Upton would report someone she didn’t trust and didn’t think should be on the job.

Is it a sign that she thinks Petrovic could change. After all, Petrovic is still a good profiler and good at her job. She doesn’t always work well with others, but then most of Intelligence struggle to work well with others most of the time.

Why didn’t Upton report Petrovic?

Unfortunately, it’s got nothing to do with Petrovic’s skills. The SVU detective spent the episode profiling Upton at the same time. It turns out that she has dirt on Upton as well. That’s not surprising considering the way Upton has got her hands dirty in the past.

We just have to remember that Burgess still hasn’t got closure over her attack. She doesn’t know that Upton killed her attacker. Only Voight and Halstead know this. They kept it from the rest of the team. It’s possible that this could come back up, leading to Upton’s eventual exit, which we know is coming this season.
