Chicago PD showrunner weighs in on a Burzek wedding

If you’ve forgotten that Burgess and Ruzek got engaged in Chicago PD Season 11, you’ll be forgiven. It was a moment that happened at the end of an episode with no big fanfare, and then seemed to be completely forgotten about.

The show put the focus on the serial killer, on Petrovic seemingly potentially joining the team, and Upton leaving. There were moments of Dante and Atwater dealing with their secrets, guilt, and more, but the focus really was on Voight and Upton this season.

What about Chicago PD Season 12? Will the focus be moved onto others? Could we see the Burzek wedding happening? Showrunner Gwen Sigan has weighed in.

We may see wedding bells in Chicago PD Season 12

Now that the writer’s room has opened, it’s time for some teases of potential storylines. Sigan told TVLine that wedding bells may be on the cards. Isn’t it time for us to get a happy ending for a couple? Turdy and Mouch seem to be the only successful couple on PD, and they’re not a PD-only couple!

To be honest, the whole of One Chicago seems to have a problem with keeping couples together and offering them happiness. We’re seem to be seeing a change, though. Just look at Severide and Kidd actually working through things! Does this mean something good for Burgess and Ruzek?

Possibly, if Sigan is being honest. The question for the writers is whether the two will have a large or a small wedding.

If it was only up to Burzek, they’d likely have a small thing at the courthouse and then a party at their own home. Just look at Ruzek's proposal. And while this is their wedding, there is someone else they both need to think about. It’s all about Makayla. She will want to be involved in the wedding planning, and she’ll likely be looking forward to the idea of wearing a pretty dress and being the flower girl or something like that. So, we may just see them choose to have a slightly larger wedding for her sake.

"But then I also think about Makayla and that she’s going to be a part of all those conversations and wanting to be a part of [the ceremony], and Ruzek has this big family and all these friends…Is he going to want to do the whole thing? You could see them go either way. There’s probably a good middle ground there."

So, what will the writers choose? Either way, it looks like we can expect a Burzek wedding in Chicago PD Season 12.
