Crime drama renewal scorecard 2024: Which broadcast crime dramas are canceled or renewed?

We have had a few renewals come in, but there are some crime dramas still on the bubble. Here's our crime drama renewal scorecard for the 2023–2024 season.

“Strange Invaders” – After discovering a navy pilot’s body riddled with unusual wounds, NCIS’ investigation draws the team into the rabbit hole of UFO conspiracy theories, on the CBS Original series NCIS, Monday, April 1 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on-demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on-demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs)*. As we get closer to May, we know that we’ll have to say goodbye to some of our favorite shows. We already know some are ending, but we know some will continue. It’s time to break down the canceled and renewed crime shows of 2024.

We’re only looking at the broadcast networks for this one. Those are the Big 5 networks, so yes, we will include The CW. We’re also only looking at the crime dramas on each of the networks.

For the shows that are on the bubble, we’ll share our predictions as to whether they will be canceled or renewed. Those predictions are made based on linear ratings, social media chatter, current shows canceled and renewed, and much more.

ABC

ABC only has two crime dramas. The other shows are first responder shows. While they have some crime to them, they are mostly focused on firefighting and medical needs. However, it is worth noting that 911 is renewed for Season 8, as I know there are a lot of fans of Athena Grant!

Here’s a look at the two shows on ABC. They both currently air on Tuesdays.

The Rookie: 50/50 chance
Will Trent: Officially renewed for Season 3

CBS

CBS is the network with the most crime dramas. Two of them have already been confirmed as coming to an end, and so far, only one crime drama has been renewed. A lot of the shows are the strong players of broadcast, so I doubt we’ll see too much of a change in the lineup. There are a couple of uncertain shows, though.

Blue Bloods: Officially ending with Season 14
CSI: Vegas: Possibly canceled
The Equalizer: A safe bet
Elsbeth: 50/50 chance
FBI: Officially renewed through to Season 9
FBI: International: Officially renewed for Season 4
FBI: Most Wanted: Officially renewed for Season 6
NCIS: A sure thing
NCIS: Hawaii: A sure thing
So Help Me Todd: Likely renewed
SWAT: Officially ending with Season 7
Tracker: Officially renewed for Season 2

Fox

One Fox show doesn’t have a premiere date for its second season. This isn’t immediately a concern due to the strike action in the summer. The other two shows aired Tuesdays, the hardest night for Fox. Honestly, when shows move to Tuesdays, I get ready for them to be canceled.

Accused: Too early to tell
Alert: Missing Persons Unit: Likely canceled
The Cleaning Lady: Likely canceled

NBC

NBC has renewed the majority of its crime drama slate. There is one on the bubble, and we could end up saying goodbye to this one.

Chicago PD: Officially renewed for Season 12
Found: Officially renewed for Season 2
The Irrational: Officially renewed for Season 2
Law & Order: Officially renewed for Season 24
Law & Order: Organized Crime: 50/50 chance
Law & Order: SVU: Officially renewed for Season 26

The CW

The CW has only just started its programming due to the strike action, so we can’t really say much. This is a network that used to be pretty easy to predict but Nexstar’s takeover led to some shocking and disappointing decisions last year. Will we get more this year?

Sight Unseen: Too early to tell
Walker: Too early to tell
Wild Cards: Likely canceled
