It’s time to feel a little older than you did when you started today. We’re taking a look at the crime dramas turning 10 this year. How many of them did you watch from the start?

2014 was a big year for crime dramas. To be honest, there are new crime dramas every year. This is one of those genres that will never get old. There is always some sort of dark and twisty story to tell.

Some of these dramas are still running today. Others came to an end after a few seasons, whether it was an abrupt cancellation or they just came to an end. It’s time to look back at 10 shows reaching a milestone birthday in 2024.

Chicago PD

We start with a show that is still on the air today and has ben renewed for another season. Chicago PD premiered in January 2014, marking the first One Chicago spin-off series after the success of Chicago Fire. In fact, the series was given the greenlight without an official backdoor pilot, with the end of Fire setting up Intelligence with Voight, Halstead, and Dawson, who we’d met regularly throughout the first season of Fire.

The series has seen some big changes to the team. However, Intelligence continues to focus on solving cases and protecting the people of Chicago. We’ve had a chance to see how characters have grown and developed over the years, especially Voight who has had to learn that the old ways of policing are no longer the right way.

Chicago PD is available to stream on Peacock.

True Detective

For those in the mood for an anthology series, True Detective is a 2014 show to check out. Each season has seen a different cast and a different cast, with Night Country being the latest one starring Jodie Foster.

The series follows the lives of detectives as they chase killers. They need to into the nitty gritty of the crime and figure out who did it and why. At the same time, they have their own demons that they need to deal with throughout the case, often causing them to set up their own suspicions without assessing everything at hand.

True Detective is available to stream on Max.

How to Get Away with Murder

While this series is more of a legal drama, it involves criminal law, so we’re going to include it on the list of crime dramas turning 10 in 2024. How to Get Away with Murder is one of those that helped solidify the TGIT lineup with Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal back in the day.

Viola Davis is the brilliant defense law professor Annalise Keating. She teaches a class with the show’s name as the title, and some of her students get to work alongside her in her own firm. We get to see how the lawyers delve into criminal cases. Of course, there are personal demons and mysteries that come up throughout the six seasons.

How to Get Away with Murder is available to stream on Hulu.

Bosch

If it wasn’t for Bosch, I don’t think Prime Video would have grown in the way that it did. Titus Welliver stars as Detective Harry Bosch in this 2014 series, based on the Michael Connelly books following the same character.

Each season of the series is a standalone case for Harry and his team to get to the bottom of. We do see a lot of recurring characters in law enforcement, allowing for growth and development. However, the cases themselves tend to include guest stars. This series has led to a spin-off series, also starring Welliver, and there is a second spin-off in the works.

Bosch is available to stream on Prime Video.

Scorpion

Not all crime involves detectives solving murder cases. There is also crime that involves computers, and that’s something Scorpion put the focus on. The series follows a group of misfits who form a think tank that defends the world against high-tech threats.

While the team is made up of some brilliant minds when it comes to the computer age, they’re not the best when it comes to social skills. We get this brilliant series that sees individuals figure out how to interact with each other and listen to one another while dealing with technological threats.

Scorpion is available to stream on Paramount+.

NCIS: New Orleans

The NCIS franchise continues to grow today. Did you know that one of the spin-offs turns 10 this year? It’s all about (my favorite) NCIS: New Orleans.

The series follows Special Agent Pride and his team. Just like the flagship series, Pride and hos team have multiple Naval crimes that they need to figure out, usually involving murder and mayhem. One thing that made this series stand out was the focus on the jazz music of New Orleans. The show captured the heart of the location.

NCIS: New Orleans is available to stream on Paramount+.

Intelligence

Again, not all crime shows are detectives on the ground. Intelligence may have only ran for one season in 2014, but it’s a great look at cyber crimes.

The series follows Gabriel Black, an intelligence operative with a supercomputer microchip implanted in his brain. He is directly connected to all Wi-Fi, internet, satellite, and telephone data. His focus is on protecting America from the inside and the outside threats as they attempt to hack computers. Of course, there’s a focus on an inside issue: Secret Service Agent Riley Neal.

You can buy Intelligence on Amazon Instant Video, Google Play, and more.

Murder in the First

A lot of crime shows are set in Los Angeles and New York. What about the crime in San Francisco? That’s the location for Murder in the First. This one ran for three seasons, but it’s one of those underrated crime dramas out there.

The series follows Terry English and Hildy Mulligan, two homicide detectives in the SFPD. The two may be completely different in terms of personalities, but they do work together well. Their focus is always on closing the case with the right suspect.

Murder in the First is available to buy on Amazon Instant Video, Apple TV, and more.

Happy Valley

There are some great British crime dramas out there, and one that you need to watch is Happy Valley. It’s hard to think that this one started in 2014 and only recently came to an end with the third season.

The series follows a West Yorkshire police sergeant, Catherine Cawood. Her home, Calder Valley, is also known as Happy Valley due to the rise in drug-related issues. While she helps to keep the crime issues under control, she is also dealing with her own grief after her daughter, Becky, killed herself after giving birth to her son. Catherine wants to put the blame on someone, and she blames Tommy Lee Royce, a man who has been serving time for drug-related crimes. When he’s released from prison, she makes it her mission to find him and prove him responsible.

Happy Valley is available to buy on Amazon Instant Video, YouTube, and more.

Forever

We end the list with another British crime drama turning 10 in 2024. Forever stars Ioan Gruffudd as Dr. Henry Morgan. Wait, is this a medical drama? Well, he plays a doctor who works with a detective to solve crimes.

This one also has a supernatural element to it. Dr. Morgan was born 200 years ago. He doesn’t understand why he’s immortal, so he’s trying to figure that out while helping Detective Jo Martinez to solve crimes. We’re used to seeing Gruffudd play the villains in UK crime dramas, so this is a great chance to see him as a good guy.

Forever is available to buy on Amazon Instant Video, Apple TV, and more.
