Elsbeth returned after a month off with two episodes. Now eyes are on any more breaks to come before the finale.
CBS set the finale dates for the current slate of shows. The Elsbeth Season 1 finale will air on Thursday, May 23. It’s the last of the finales to air, and it is the only show to air a new episode that night. Ghosts wraps up first on May 2 while Young Sheldon and So Help Me Todd come to an end on May 16.
Eyes are on whether there will be more breaks in the schedule since the finale is so far away. Plus, what are the chances of getting a second season?
Will there be any breaks in the schedule?
There is some good news for Elsbeth fans. The month-long break between the first and second episodes is the only one. There is no need for CBS to take another break in the schedule.
There are 10 episodes in the season in total. Episode 4 just aired on Thursday, April 11. That means there are six episodes left to air, and there are six Thursdays including May 23.
Will Elsbeth land a second season?
The thing that we’re more concerned about is whether this Good Wife spin-off will actually get a second season. CBS did the show no favors with a month-long break. The timeslot is also not helping.
The show got off to a slow start in the linear ratings, according to TV Series Finale, but they ticked up well after the second episode. The problem is they saw a decline for the third episode, despite that airing straight after the second episode. It suggests that the 10 p.m. ET/PT timeslot isn’t great for linear ratings, and hopefully, the streaming figures are taken into account.
If the series is renewed for a second season, I see this one being held for the midseason. It does have a loyal fanbase from The Good Wife, but it’s just not performing as well as I’d hoped in the linear ratings to be confident of a renewal.
Elsbeth airs Thursdays at 10/9c on CBS.
