There’s a new series regular joining the cast of FBI in Season 7. Lisette Olivera is joining the series.

In the Deadline report, there are no signs that Olivera is replacing anyone currently on the team. It looks like she will play a new character who joins the New York field office with everyone else. This is great news for fans who aren’t ready to see any part of the team change.

Updated: Just minutes after publishing this, TVLine confirms that Katherine Renee Kane is leaving the series during Season 7.

Who will Lisette Olivera play in FBI Season 7?

Olivera will take on the role of Syd, a trained Behavioral Analysis Unit Agent, who will come into the field team to help with cases. Yes, that’ BAU. It looks like FBI is getting a bit of Criminal Minds thrown in. Well, the two shows aren’t set in the same universe, but we know the BAU is very much a real thing in the FBI.

Considering she is part of the BAU, it does mean that she won’t take over any of the main roles. However, she could end up helping a few of the team members who have been struggling mentally for a couple of seasons now. OA and Tiffany seemed to suffer the most in FBI Season 6.

How many episodes will Lisette Olivera be in?

What’s not clear is episode count. As a series regular, it technically means that she could be around for all episodes of FBI Season 7. However, it’s worth noting that none of the series regulars will be around for every episode of the season.

As a way to save some money, FBI and its spin-off Most Wanted will see a reduction in the cast here and there. Some of the regular characters will be MIA for some episodes. CBS hasn’t been clear on how many episodes they’ll miss, but if this series follows the likes of the One Chicago franchise, then we’re looking at people missing two to three episodes in a season.

FBI Season 7 premieres on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 8/7c on CBS.
