There’s a new sheriff in town in the world of Fire Country. Of course, we knew that was going to happen, and now we know who it will be.

CBS wants to build on the universe of the Max Thieriot series. It’s not surprising that the series has turned to a sheriff focus for the initial spin-off idea. After all, there’s an immediate connection with the way the Cal Fire program is set up. A cop drama was also the first idea for a spin-off in another firefighter series: the One Chicago franchise.

We still don’t know if the spin-off will happen. The sheriff is being introduced as a potential series regular if the spin-off doesn’t happen. Now we at least know who will take on the role.

Morena Baccarin takes on the role of sheriff in the Fire Country spin-off

The CBS series has turned to Deadpool star Morena Baccarin. She will play Mickey, a Sheriff’s Deputy for the last 15 years who knows everything and everyone in Edgewater. She is protective of the town that she calls home.

We will get to meet her at some point in Fire Country Season 2, although Deadline hasn’t confirmed when that will be. The episode isn’t classed as a backdoor pilot as the character could end up going either way: spin-off lead or series regular in the flagship series.

Since Mickey is protective of the town, it’s likely that she isn’t all too happy with Bode. After all, he did something that landed himself in jail, and now he’s admitted to sourcing and selling drugs. We know that the latter isn’t real, but Mickey is likely to believe his testimony the way everyone else does. Will she listen to those who know that he’s been forced to lie to get Frankie out of prison?

Fire Country is available to stream on Paramount+.
