How did Blue Bloods say goodbye to Treat Williams?
When it comes to the death of an actor who is or has appeared in a TV series, it’s natural to find a way to honor them. This is usually through a dedication card at the end of an episode, but Blue Bloods opted for something different.
The series opted for something similar to NCIS, by writing in the character death. This often allows the actors to grieve as their characters, and that certainly happened in the most recent episode of Blue Bloods.
How Lenny Ross was written out of Blue Bloods
The series had an option based on the storyline from a Season 13 episode. Lenny told Frank that he had been diagnosed with cancer.
That’s the exact way the series played out the story to say goodbye to Williams. Frank learned that Lenny had died of his illness. Frank said a beautiful speech that summed up their friendship. He also made it clear that he knew the man well, making it clear that Lenny wouldn’t want people crying. He would want them celebrating life. Although, Frank asks Lenny to save him a seat at the table.
Frank had to decide what to do about Lenny’s daughter
Blue Bloods brought up Lenny’s story through his daughter. She was arrested after a bar fight, and Frank had to decide what to do about that. Would he push for a prosecution? After all, she was in trouble, but would that be the right thing to do in this case? Frank promised to do the best thing for Lenny’s daughter.
In the end, Frank knew that he had to do the right thing in terms of the law. He gave Tess the name of a good defense attorney, but he did decide to prosecute.
There was a dedication card at the end of the episode to mark the loss of Treat Williams.
Blue Bloods airs on Fridays at 10/9c on CBS. Catch up the following day on Paramount+.
