The Law & Order cast is changing again. Camryn Manheim is leaving the series. It sounds like her last episode was the Season 23 finale, so now we’re left wondering why her character has left. As we get answers about that, we’re going to get an introduction of a new lieutenant.

TVLine reports that Maura Tierney will join Law & Order Season 24 as a series regular. She will step in to replace Lt. Kate Dixon in the precinct.

Who will Maura Tierney play in Law & Order Season 24?

As of right now, the details of the character are unknown. We don’t even have a character name. All we do know is that she will replace the gap left by Dixon.

If you want to see Tierney in action right now, you’ll want to head to theaters. She is in the movie Twisters, currently taking over the Box Office. You can also turn to ER to see her 10-year stint on that NBC series.

What happened to Kate Dixon in Law & Order?

Of course, fans want to know what is going on with Dixon. She is a fan-favorite character, so it doesn’t make sense to just get rid of her unless Manheim wanted to leave the series. It’s not clear whose the decision was at this point.

So far, we don’t know what has happened to Dixon. She showed no signs of wanting to leave the precinct. Of course, Law & Order, along with many of Dick Wolf’s shows, have a bad habit of not really explaining character exits. Instead of giving them a proper goodbye, we end up with learning that they’ve just moved on to other place, especially when the character exit is a creative choice.

In some cases, such as in Chicago PD, the characters are just forgotten about. Let’s hope that isn’t the case in Law & Order.
