The SVU team celebrates a milestone in the Law & Order: SVU Season 25 premiere
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit is finally back and the Season 25 premiere looks to kick off a historic year!
It's been a long wait for fans of the iconic series as work on Season 25 was delayed by the WGA and SAG strikes hitting Hollywood over the summer of 2023. Thankfully, it's been settled, as the SVU team is back with a bit of a change.
The Season 24 finale was also a crossover with Law & Order: Organized Crime as the two squads joined together to take on a twisted website that put out hits on people. During the case, Muncy, already questioning her place on the SVU team, left to take a job with a new task force.
Former SVU cop Amanda Rollins helped on the case with the revelation she was expecting a third child, her first with husband Carisi. The season ended with Benson adjusting to these new changes.
This leads to the Season 25 premiere, which has more shifts for the squad.
What's coming in the Law & Order: SVU Season 25 premiere?
The premiere, titled "Tunnel Blind," appears to address the length of time since the Season 24 finale as it takes place months later. It also has Kelli Giddish returning as Rollins, which may pave the way for a full-time return as the team has a new dangerous case.
"SEASON PREMIERE - As the squad celebrates the birth of Rollins and Carisi's child, another child goes missing in broad daylight."
It does appear Molly Burnett is gone from the show as Muncy, and it is up in the air if Rollins is returning full-time. The SVU squad could use some fresh blood to boost it up, as Benson is still adjusting to some changes.
What won't change is the powerful drama that makes Law & Order: SVU such a huge deal for fans and sets up a landmark 25th season for the drama.
Law & Order: SVU Season 25 premieres Thursday January 18 at 9/8c on NBC. Catch up the following day on Peacock.
