Magnum PI series finale preview: Are Magnum and Higgins getting hitched?

After five seasons, Magnum PI is finally bidding aloha! Could wedding bells be ringing in the last episode?

Magnum PI is ready to roll out its final episodes, but is it possible wedding bells are in the air for the grand finale? Find out here.

It's been a wild road for fans of the reboot of the Tom Selleck TV classic. After four seasons on CBS, the show was unexpectedly canceled in 2022 amid a big outcry. Thankfully, NBC stepped in to renew it for two 10-episode seasons that it eventually combined into a single Season 5. 

However, NBC confirmed the final half of Season 5 would be the last for the series. It looks like it was among the victims of the various strikes hitting Hollywood across the summer, and NBC is trying to move on with fresh shows. 

The last episode aired on Wednesday, Dec. 13 with Magnum and Higgins hired to investigate a college professor suspected of affairs with students. Instead, they stumbled onto a wild plot as an undercover Chinese spy was using the man to get her hands on a deadly virus. Luckily, Magnum and Higgins were able to stop her.

The subplot was TC, Rick, and Gordon on a camping trip, mostly filler to touch on their various family dynamics. 

So, after a few weeks off, the two-hour series finale arrives this week. What will happen?

What to expect on the Magnum PI series finale

The two-part finale, "Ashes to Ashes" and "The Big Squeeze," airs back to back with the trailer hinting Magnum may be thinking of popping the question to Higgins. 

"Episode 19: Magnum and Higgins reexamine a fatal arson investigation at the request of TC and Mahina, leading to a sinister discovery; Kumu volunteers with Rick at a veterans' crisis call center.

Episode 20: Magnum and Higgins take a major step forward in their relationship. At the same time, the past comes back to haunt them when a previous suspect becomes their client. TC aims to scale up Island Hoppers. Rick gets a new business partner."

While these episodes weren't intended to be the series finale, the producers seem hopeful it will close out the series on a good note without any big cliffhangers. The big question is if Magnum really is going to propose and if Higgins says yes. 

Either way, it's time to bid a final aloha to Magnum PI and see how the hit show finally ends its run.
