It's bad news for those wanting more NCIS: Hawaii tonight (May 13)
With the way things ended in NCIS: Hawaii on Monday, May 6, it’s clear that we need more to the story. It’s bad news for the series, though.
There isn’t a new episode of the series on tonight, Monday, May 13. Despite CBS usually putting finales on in the middle of the month of May, there is a little change this year. That’s due to the episode counts of shows, and the two NCIS shows ended up with early May finales.
The Season 3 finale aired on Monday, May 6. That cliffhanger was intended to push us into a fourth season, but there is some terrible news for fans.
NCIS: Hawaii is not coming back for a fourth season
There will not be any new episodes of the series after this. The Season 3 finale became the series finale after CBS opted to abruptly cancel the show. This wasn’t due to viewership either. There is nothing that fans could have done, as the decision came down to a few other metrics. And CBS doesn’t care that fans want more, otherwise the show could have moved over to Paramount+!
The series did learn of the cancellation a few weeks before the series finale. It was a little short-sighted to keep the season finale as it was. That last scene could have been cut out, allowing for the series to end with a little more closure. Instead, we’ll all be left wondering what would have happened as Maggie turned back up in Jane’s life.
NCIS: Origins will take over the Monday night timeslot
This doesn’t mean there won’t be more of the NCISverse on CBS. The flagship series was renewed for a 22nd season, and NCIS: Sydney was renewed for a second season. There is also a new series heading our way.
NCIS: Origins will arrive in fall 2024, and it will take over the NCIS: Hawaii timeslot. We’ll get to see how Gibbs got his start as a federal agent, joining Mike Franks’s team at a time of heavy grief. This is just after Shannon and Kelly were murdered, and it’s something that he kept extremely close to the chest.
It is disappointing that we can’t have an NCIS Monday, though. It would have been great to keep Hawaii and have Origins join it.
