While we start with the bad news that there isn’t a new episode of NCIS on tonight, Monday, April 8, we do have a return date. There’s also some exciting news when it comes to the new episode.

The show is taking a one-week break. This is likely linked to scheduling. After all, there are only 10 episodes to this season and CBS will want the season to wrap up in May. That means a few breaks in the schedule here and there.

The show will return on Monday, April 15. In some exciting news, this is the 1000th episode of the entire franchise, and we can’t wait to see what’s in store for the team.

Get the details of the 1000th episode of the NCIS franchise

Titled “A Thousand Years,” NCIS will see a mysterious face from the past turn up as the problem. This is going to be a job that is for the whole of the franchise. We know that we’ll see Vanessa Lachey and Daniela Ruah return as Jane and Kensi respectively. There is hope that we’ll see other members of various teams pop up in some way.

It’s important to note that Kensi and Jane won’t be in the episode in person. They show up in a fun way, which does open the door for other character appearances. Pride, anyone?

It doesn’t look like Gibbs will be back. It’s disappointing, but we have no idea what’s really going on behind the scenes. Plus, it would need to be something that involves Gibbs directly for him to come back into the show, I think. He’s happy and at peace in Alaska.

There will be some Easter eggs from previous episodes of the franchise. TVLine makes a note that the first episode of the flagship series, “Yankee White,” is heavily featured.

Leon Vance gets the personal storyline of the hour

There is always a personal storyline in the episodes. We’ve come to expect to learn more about where the characters are in their personal lives, with McGee recently finding out that he has a half-sister. Well, the 1000th episode is all about Director Leon Vance.

His son turns up, this time played by Spence Moore II. He wants to get some answers from his dad about why his dad has always chosen NCIS. This is important as we see it a lot on these TV shows. Parents, especially dads, put their jobs first even though they supposedly love their children. So, what gives?
