Timothy McGee was shocked to learn that he had a half-sibling out there in the world in NCIS. The explanation for her is actually quite sweet.
We knew McGee’s family would expand, and not through the use of children. He would run an ancestry panel, and that’s where he would learn that there was someone else out there with half his DNA. Of course, finding out that you have a half-sibling out there can be shocking for some, especially for McGee.
He went through the thoughts of his father having an affair. It’s the first logical thought. It was heartbreaking for him as well. As his father’s deceased, it’s not like he can just bring up the subject. He also needed to find a way to tell his sister, who we have already met on the series.
McGee’s dad is one of the good ones in NCIS
The show didn’t opt to make McGee’s dad an adulterer, though. It turned out that he was a sperm donor to a couple. Lauren Redding is the product of IVF and there is nothing negative about it.
McGee and his sister ended up meeting Lauren for coffee (off-screen). We got to find out that Lauran is a yoga instructor and both he and Sarah like her.
Does this mean that we’ll get to meet Lauren in the future? While it is possible, that’s not likely this season. There are only 10 episodes in NCIS Season 21, and the show hasn’t even been renewed for Season 22 yet.
This was just a great side story to show that everyone has skeletons in their closets, but they’re not necessarily bad skeletons. Sometimes, people just want to do something good for others. We will never get the full story of while McGee’s dad opted to be a sperm donor, but that doesn’t really matter. McGee’s memory of his dad wasn’t tarnished for the sake of some side plot, and he gets to find out that there is someone else out there who shares half of his (not so 100%) Irish DNA.
NCIS airs Mondays at 9/8c on CBS.
