With Season 22 of NCIS premiering in October, fans are excited to find out what happens next to our favorite crime-solvers. How is the head of the team Alden Parker after nearly dying? And who is Lily? The little girl that he kept hallucinating about during his near-death experience? And will Jessica Knight leave the team for that position as chief training officer for REACT? After all, it is her dream job.

But the job required her to reside at Camp Pendleton, which is far from her boyfriend, Dr. Jimmy Palmer. When Jimmy learned of the job offer, he exploded in anger. So, fans have been waiting to find out where the NCIS team stands at the opening of Season 22.

Some fans have also wondered if Ziva David and Tony DiNozzo would make an appearance during Season 22. We saw Tony at Dr. Donald "Ducky" Mallard's funeral. It was a welcome surprise for fans since Jethro Gibbs wasn't there.

NCIS has teased a Season 22 storyline involving an unusual spy

TVLine reported that the role of a super spy needs to be cast. Showrunner Steven D. Binder shared we're getting a James Bond type episode, but there is going to be a dangerous (and heartbreaking) twist.

"We’ve got a fun episode about what happens when a guy like Jason Bourne or James Bond — one of these really serious, high-end people who are involved in espionage — ends up in a retirement home, suffering from the things that all of our parents and grandparents suffer."

What an intriguing idea.

"What do you do when you have those sort of skills, and that sort of knowledge, and you’re starting to lose your [expletive]?"

That is indeed a fascinating premise for an NCIS guest star. Will the spy help the team? Or somehow stand in their way? The possibilities are endless, and entertaining, to contemplate.

While we wait for the new season, you can catch up on NCIS by streaming it on Paramount+.
