NCIS: Sydney fans are excited to see the conclusion of the first season, but could a cliffhanger be involved? Here’s what we know.
NCIS is known for some good cliffhanger endings for their seasons that have fans biting their nails. Season 20 ended with Torres seemingly ready to kill a man who once hurt his family. NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS: Hawaii have tried to end seasons on a bit more of a closed note, yet cliffhangers are always good to keep fans excited.
Of course, there’s always the downside, as it’s impossible to count the number of shows that did a huge cliffhanger only to be canceled with no resolution. It’s a risk for some new shows, and for a production like NCIS: Sydney, it’s trickier.
The series only had an eight-episode order, which is standard for Australian TV dramas. It’s set to wrap up the first year on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2024, right before the regular NCIS finally makes its long-awaited return. So, are fans in for some big cliffhanger?
Olivia Swann on NCIS: Sydney’s finale
Speaking to TVLine, Olivia Swann, who plays NCIS Special Agent Michelle Mackey, hinted that the big finale “ends in a way that will make you call CBS and tell them to greenlight Season 2!”
Swann expanded on it in an interview with TV Insider, hinting the finale will touch on the long-range arc set up in the pilot episode of the team facing a terrorist group.
"“There are a couple of twists and turns and reveals and all fun things like that, but it does all get kind of sewn together, and by the end of the season, we start getting a really big scope of what actually has been going on throughout the whole season. It accumulates in a very intense, very explosive, very heartbreaking way. I’m so excited for it to air because there’s some really, really cool stuff coming up.”"
Swann also hinted that a possible Season 2 would see Mackey be a bit more vulnerable with her teammates and open up more about her past traumas.
Hopefully, the cliffhanger gets enough attention for CBS to greenlight a second season and let NCIS: Sydney continue its great run.
NCIS: Sydney returns on Tuesday, Jan. 9 at 8/7c on CBS.
