Who's the new cop on Law & Order: SVU?

Law & Order: SVU has a new cop working with the team! Who is she, and will she be a bigger presence on the show? Here's what we know so far!

Law & Order: SVU fans are well-versed in how the series has a revolving door for actors. Mariska Hargitay and Ice-T have been around for almost the entire run, but other cops have come and gone. That includes Molly Burnett, whose Grace Muncy left after just one season. 

Law & Order: SVU adds a new cop to the team

This has the SVU team adding in more faces, such as Frank Bruno (Kevin Kane), whose intriguing backstory is winning millions in a civil suit but staying on the force. There is still the potential for more faces, and one might be rising up. 

In Season 25, Episode 2, the SVU precinct was suddenly attacked by a batch of masked men who had previously been involved in a "flash mob theft." Officer Tiffany Gomez (Edie Salas Miller) was ready to shoot one before Benson stopped her, saying she needed to understand restraint. 

In the latest episode, "The Punch List," Gomez showed up at the SVU squad room, surprised to hear Benson had requested her to be transferred there. Benson said Gomez had the potential to be a good officer, but "things are much more complicated than right and wrong" and wanted to give the rookie more experience. 

Gomez would follow Benson visiting the mother of the girl kidnapped in the Season 25 premiere as the husband was recovering from a suicide attempt. The case was clearly shaking Benson more, with Gomez driving her around. 

So, is there a chance Gomez rises up more in the SVU team?

Who plays Tiffany Gomez?

Gomez is played by Edie Salas Miller, and it's her first big acting role after several podcast appearances. The show is playing on Gomez's youth, with Benson seeing her drive and potential, but she just needs to be tempered a bit. 

It's unlikely Gomez is going to jump to a full-time job aiding the squad as she's still a rookie cop, nowhere near close enough to becoming a detective. However, she appears set to be a recurring character shadowing Benson, driving her, and might get more focus as the season goes on. 

It's an intriguing move by Benson, who likely remembers she needed a mentor to help when she was starting as a cop. She may remember how Muncy had a tough time adjusting to SVU because of her temper and doesn't want Gomez to make the same mistake. Seeing Benson handling this new dynamic is interesting and Gomez might be a fun new face for the new season of Law & Order: SVU.
