In some good news, new SWAT episodes are happening. The bad news is not tonight, Friday, May 24. The show is now on a break.
The previous episode was the season finale. It was originally written as a series finale, but it works well as both. CBS U-turned a lot on this series over the last year. Initially canceling it, CBS ended up U-turning and renewing it for a seventh and final season. As the series proved to remain a success on the network, a new deal with Sony was made and Season 8 was ordered.
However, that didn’t extend the episode count for this season. The May 17 episode remained the season finale, but it gave us hope that we’d see plenty of familiar faces when the series returned.
When will SWAT Season 8 premiere on CBS?
So, now eyes are on when we’ll see the series return. There is a wait on our hands, but it’s not as long as the wait for Season 7. Due to a lack of strike action this summer, the fall will look normal. CBS has confirmed that SWAT Season 8 will premiere in fall 2024.
The show will return on Fridays. It will kick off Friday night dramas, followed by Fire Country and the final episodes of Blue Bloods. There is a change in 2025, though. When the series returns after its winter break, it will move to the 10 p.m. ET/PT timeslot.
As for episode count, there is some excellent news. The eighth season—which has not been billed as a final season this time—is planning to have 22 episodes.
There isn’t a confirmed premiere date just yet. We usually find out fall premiere dates in late June or early July, so we’re expecting the same this year. However, we usually see premieres around late September or early October, and we can expect that in fall 2024.
