There isn't a new episode of Matlock tonight, but we know when it will return to CBS

There is some disappointing news for those who loved the first episode of Matlock. There isn't a new episode of the series on tonight, and we have to wait for the show's return.

Fall TV is here, but already the schedule is a little off. After a great start to the new Matlock series last Sunday, you’re likely getting ready for a new episode tonight, Sunday, Sept. 29.

We have some bad news. There is not a new episode of the series on tonight. Nor will there be one next Sunday.

CBS opted for a strange schedule for this new series. It brought us the first episode weeks before the show will settle in its regular timeslot. Plus, the episode aired on an unusual night compared to when it’s set in the fall schedule.

Matlock will return with new episodes on October

There will not be a new episode of Matlock this month at all. CBS opted to air the first episode weeks before the show’s intended start. This could be to help gain some hype around the series, but we have to say that this type of release schedule is annoying and confusing. It happened with Elsbeth, and now it’s happening with Matlock.

The second episode of the Kathy Bates series will air on Thursday, Oct. 17.

Yes, the show will actually air on Thursdays. It will air at 9 p.m. ET/PT, sandwiched between Ghosts and Elsbeth. This is an okay timeslot, but it will go up against the new ABC series Doctor Odyssey and Law & Order: SVU on NBC. It wasn’t a great timeslot for a few shows on CBS over the years, so we are concerned about it.

There are clearly some exciting storylines to come, though. We know that Matty is up to something. While she told people that she has returned to work for money, we can see that’s not fully the case. She warned people that being unassuming is her superpower, and she’s not just talking in a court of law. She’s using it to her advantage in her new workplace as well.

Matlock returns on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 9/8c on CBS.
