Did Roman just up and leave in High Potential?
While High Potential is clearly going to have a case of the week structure, there is a season-long storyline to play out. It’s all about Morgan’s ex, Roman.
During the pilot episode, we found out that Roman went out for diapers 15 years ago and never returned. While Morgan has always wondered what happened, it’s not for her that she wants answers. She needs answers for her daughter, Ava, who has a dark cloud above her feeling like the odd one out in the family.
If Roman really wanted her, why did he just leave? Morgan doesn’t think he skipped down, and she’s going to use her new position to get to the truth. It’s part of the deal for her coming on board as a consultant.

The police at the time decided not to look too much into Roman’s disappearance. They didn’t believe Morgan when she said there was something fishy going on. They believe he chose to leave.
It’s a tale as old as time, right? A man gets cold feet, goes out for diapers (or cigarettes or milk), and then just leaves. He never returns, and most woman accept that they were with a deadbeat. Ava thinks her dad was a deadbeat, and that’s what hurts her. These parents who skip out never consider the damage they leave behind—or they do, but they don’t care.
What was Roman up to before he disappeared in High Potential?
Showrunner Todd Harthan talked to TVLine about this storyline, and he made it clear that there are things that Morgan has overlooked. While she has this high IQ and sees everything, it’s natural for even her to overlook the red flags. Don’t we all ignore red flags when we’re with someone we love?
It looks like Roman was up to something that Morgan wasn’t aware of. Could this be working with a drug kingpin or for a crime boss? This would make sense for him to then just go missing.
We’re sure to see the mystery unraveled by the end of High Potential Season 1. The real question is whether he’ll turn up dead or alive. Dead is likely more realistic with a 15-year disappearance, unless he disappeared and skipped down to protect Morgan and Ava.
