Rossi spent the first two episodes of Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 2 hallucinating Voit. We get his snarky side of Voit, a version Rossi knew from their meeting toward the end of the first season. It’s a clear sign that Rossi is sinking back into old habits.

This is not the first time Rossi has hallucinated during a case. Let us think back to when it came to the hunt for Gideon’s killer. Rossi started to hallucinate a younger version of Gideon to aid him with the case.

Then in Criminal Minds Season 15, Rossi hallucinated Lynch, who was the main UnSub of the season. Lynch had gotten into Rossi’s mind after leaving Rossi alive for an unknown reason. Rossi made it his mission to take down Lynch.

Will Rossi go off the deep end in Criminal Minds: Evolution?

Hallucinations have been a sign that Rossi is struggling. Sometimes, the hallucinations are there to aid him in his investigations, but there are times that the hallucinations taunt him and he ends up making mistakes. It’s clear that Voit is taunting Rossi at this point, and Rossi is at the risk of losing it.

There was an opportunity for Rossi to be open about the hallucinations. Luke saw Rossi in his car outside of Garcia’s house. Rather than admit that he was seeing the foe from the first season of the revival, Rossi made up a story and Luke when on his way. Has Rossi learned nothing about the previous times that the UnSubs have gotten into his head? He needs to lean on the team.

Right now, Rossi is still focused on the cases that come up. During the second episode, Prentiss was so convinced that Gold Star was the one behind a double murder that she looked for all signs that would corroborate her theory. Rossi had a gut feeling that she was wrong, and it took until the very end of the episode for her to realize this.

So, Rossi isn’t quite as deep as he was with Lynch right now. It helps that Voit is behind bars and not someone to hunt down. However, it’s only a matter of time before the hallucinations turn into something more.
