Did Sam Hana survive in the NCIS: Hawaii series finale?
From the promo for the NCIS: Hawaii series finale promo, it was clear that Sam Hana would be infected with the bioweapon. Would the team find a way to save him?
Caution: This post contains major spoilers from the NCIS: Hawaii series finale
The finale picked up off the back of the shocking ending to the previous episode. Sam was trapped in the airlock while the rest of ELITE was in the room with the bioweapon being set off. There was no saving any of them, but Sam tried to get to them. In the end, one of the team members stopped Sam coming in, making it clear that he couldn’t risk being infected.
Well, he was infected. Dr. Cruz ran off with the antidote, and it was clear that Sam’s life was going to be on the line. The question was whether the series would actually kill off one of the OG NCIS: Los Angeles characters in the finale of Hawaii, where he has been a guest star for the season.
Did the team save Sam Hana in NCIS: Hawaii?
While the rest of ELITE quickly suffered from the virus, Sam didn’t. Of course, everyone wanted to understand how he was still standing when the rest of ELITE wasn’t. He was only exposed briefly compared to everyone else.
What about Cruz? They all figured that she must have had an antidote. So, it does offer some hope for Sam. So, the focus was on finding the antidote for the bioweapon while Sam was transported to a quarantining facility. Well, with the facilities too far away, Jane decided that they should build one.
Boone went back to the facility the bioweapon was released to get what was likely the antidote, only to be attacked by the Serbian police. Fortunately, they were in on Whistler’s request. He did manage to get the antidote, but there was only enough of it for one vial. With Compound X out in the wind, the doc, Sam, and Jane knew using the antidote to synthesize another one was necessary. Would the doc be able to synthesize it in time to be able to save Sam as well?
At one point, it did look like Sam was going to succumb to the bioweapon. The doc rushed in and gave him the antidote, hoping that she’d made the right thing. It would either save him or kill him.
It looked like it saved him, giving him time while everyone else in Hawaii focused on taking down the plan to use the bioweapon. It turned out the plan was to attack the families of all the generals to get revenge.
Sam woke up from his unconscious sleep just in time to save the doc from Cruz. The series ended with Sam back in Hawaii with Jane and the team. All is good in NCIS: Hawaii for Sam and the lives of the team. That was until the very end with the cliffhanger, which ended with the return of Maggie. Oh if only the series could be saved and we'd find out where that story would go. Had it not been for that ending, this could have worked as a good series finale.
