Snowpiercer confirmed Wilford's fate: Did he die by his own hand?
We learned quickly not to trust anything that Wilford says in Snowpiercer. Well, sometimes, he is honest, and that happened a couple of episodes ago.
At the end of Snowpiercer Season 4, Episode 7, Wilford smoked a cigar. He told Layton that it was laced with poison and would kill him. After that, he uncoupled the carriage Layton was in, and we ended up more concerned about Layton, Josie, and Liana rather than Wilford.
The penultimate episode confirmed whether Wilford was telling the truth about the poisoned cigar or not.
Wilford is dead in Snowpiercer
It turns out that Wilford was telling the truth. At least, that’s what Layton believes.
Alex asked what had happened to her former father figure, sharing that she wouldn’t blame Layton if he killed Wilford. Layton made it clear that he didn’t take Wilford’s life, but that Wilford was dead. He shared that Wilford poisoned himself.
Alex theorized why Wilford would do something like that. She realized that Wilford knew that he wasn’t going to get what he wanted. There was no way for him to win with Nima in charge. The Animal Squad wasn’t going to listen to Wilford, and he didn’t want to live in a world where he wasn’t worshipped. Rather than risk death by others, he decided to take his own life.
Alex does show a little sadness. It’s hard not to. This is the man who saved her. Twice.
He made sure she got on Big Alice when she had been left behind. Then he took her from the car that he was separating during the cull on Big Alice. Alex felt like she owed Wilford everything, and it took a long time for her to realize that he was manipulating her. So, there is a part of her that feels for him and misses him. She just knows that the world is also a better place without him around.
We now head into the Snowpiercer series finale, and there are a lot of questions about how this series could end.
