The Rookie worries fans with photos of Chen in a hospital gown in Season 6

The Rookie is coming back for Season 6 soon, but a new set photo has fans worried about Chen's health in the new season.

The Rookie is due to return in a few weeks, but a new behind-the-scenes photo has fans worried about Chen’s health. Here’s what we know.

The Rookie, like all network shows, has been delayed for some time due to the WGA/SAG strikes hitting Hollywood over the summer of 2023. It was a disappointment for fans, given the Season 5 finale was a wild one, as the cops had to handle a series of deadly crimes pointing to a possible attack on Los Angeles. 

They seemed to save the day, but the closing moments revealed that this entire thing was a distraction from a master criminal setting up an even bigger heist. Having been badly injured in an attack, the final scene showed Thorsen going into cardiac arrest in the hospital.

The show will now be the only one for The Rookie as the spin-off The Rookie: Feds was eventually canceled in November 2023. So fans are eager to see what happens next but are concerned about some behind-the-scenes photos hinting at a rough time for Lucy Chen. 

What’s going on with Chen in The Rookie Season 6 premiere?

A set of new behind-the-scenes photos for Season 6 has the cast in pretty high spirits. The fate of Thorsen is still up in the air, although teasers seem to have spoiled that. There is one pic that has us concerned for another character. It shows Melissa O’Neil in a hospital gown. It doesn’t look like she has any visible injuries, so it’s possible it was just being roughed up by a suspect but it is concerning. 

Also concerning is how Wes is there, making fans wonder if Chen has landed herself in some sort of legal trouble needing his help. Angela is absent, although hopefully, she’s just busy with either a new case or motherhood. 

At least Bradford is there, showing whatever Chen is going through, her boyfriend is at her side for it. It’s up in the air if The Rookie Season 6 picks up right where Season 5 left off or if it embraces the long delay with a time jump. 

This adds to the mystery of The Rookie’s new season and makes fans more excited than ever to see it hit.

The Rookie Season 6 premieres on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 9/8c on ABC.
