If there was one disappointing decision in the world of crime dramas in May 2023, it was the cancellation of Walker Independence. There was a lot of potential there, and fans want to know if there is a chance to revisit Abby Walker’s storyline.

Usually, when a show is canceled, that’s it. There is no hope of revisiting a storyline except through other formats, such as comic books. That’s not the case for Walker Independence just yet. This was a prequel spin-off of a series that is still currently on the air.

Yes, it’s all about the Jared Padalecki drama Walker. Showrunner Anna Fricke talked about whether Abby could show up or if her storyline could be revisited in the present day story.

Abby’s storyline won’t be in Walker Season 4

Fricke did start off with some bad news. Abby’s storyline wasn’t included in Walker Season 4.

There were a couple of reasons for this. One of those was that the prequel series was a separate show from the Padalecki one. They are both set in different times, and we simply know that Abby is likely where the Walker line in Texas began.

There are set to be only 13 episodes of Walker rather than the usual full-length season. This makes it even harder to fit in storylines. The focus needs to be on the present day.

Abby could be included if Walker is renewed

However, Fricke offered some hope. It’s clear that there was an interest in Independence, and the writers still want the chance to tell Abby’s story. So, there is a glimmer of hope that it could be included in a future storyline.

This means that The CW needs to renew Walker for Season 5, and we can no longer rely on The CW renewing shows until they get to syndication levels. It all depends on the viewership.

Walker is the second-most-popular show on The CW in the same-day ratings, according to TV Series Finale. This offers hope that it will be renewed. While the series did see some big drops in averages compared to the previous season, there is a major factor to consider. Walker started much later partly due to the strike action and partly due to Nexstar opting to push The CW series to the midseason, where linear views are traditionally lower.

So, there is a chance right now that Walker will be renewed. This offers the show a chance to delve into Abby’s storyline.
