What happened to Kate Dixon in Law & Order? (Was Camryn Manheim's exit explained?)

We knew Law & Order would see a cast change in Season 24. Lt. Kate Dixon is out and Lt. Jessica Brady is in. Where has Dixon gone?

There is no doubt that we were disappointed to hear that there would be another cast change before Law & Order Season 24 got started. Camryn Manheim has left the series. We didn’t even get a goodbye for Lt. Kate Dixon.

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS from Law & Order Season 24’s premiere.

It’s not uncommon for Law & Order to bring change during the seasons. This is sometimes a show choice and sometimes an actor choice. It looks like in this case, it was the show’s decision to shake things up, and we’re not sure how to feel about that.

Sure a series has to keep things fresh and cast changes do that. At the same time, we want to have characters for a few more years before we say goodbye to them.

Where is Lt. Kate Dixon in Law & Order?

The problem with a cast change between season is that we usually don’t get a goodbye. That’s the case here. We don’t get to see Dixon ride off into the sunset.

It doesn’t even look like Riley and Shaw were even ready to see a change in lieutenant. Lt. Jessica Brady appeared at the crime scene, and she said “for the third time” she had no idea where Dixon had gone. Is this going to be an ongoing storyline, or is this a creative choice by the show not to give us some sort of closure?

She did send a text at the end of the hour. She has headed to Miami with Patrick. She didn't want the tears but encourages Shaw and Reid to visit. Once again, it's a quick, disappointing exit. Can we have a real goodbye please?

Law & Order Season 24 airs Thursdays at 8/7c on NBC. Catch up the following day on Peacock.
