The Power universe is expanding even more with a prequel series that shows how the saga of Ghost began! This franchise remains popular with STARZ viewers.

Power may be the most underrated crime saga on television. Premiering on STARZ in 2014, the series followed James St. Patrick (Omari Hardwick), a New York City club owner who was also the drug kingpin “Ghost.” He was aided by his long-time best friend Tommy Egan (Joseph Sikora) as James was ready to give up the drug trade and go straight.

While married, James took up with old flame Angela Valdes (Lela Loren), unaware she was a federal prosecutor targeting Ghost. This led to various clashes over the show’s six seasons.

While Power ended in 2020, the show has expanded to its own universe. Now, it’s getting another entry in a tale fans have wanted to see!

What is the new Power show about?

Per TVLine, Power: Origins has been ordered to series by STARZ as the fifth show in the franchise. It will flash back to show how a younger James and Tommy met and began forging their drug empire.

“The new drama follows Ghost and Tommy as ambitious young entrepreneurs on the rise, determined to make their mark on the streets of New York City. A fun, rambunctious exploration of a new time period in the Power franchise, Power: Origins will highlight the unbridled audacity of young men on the rise, determined to become legends in the game.”

The show, like the rest of the Power universe, is produced by rapper Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, who also had a recurring role as Ghost’s drug-dealing frenemy Kanan. Sacha Penn will serve as showrunner and executive producer and had a statement on tackling the tale.

“Ghost and Tommy’s backstories have fueled years of constant fascination and speculation among fans, and I’m thrilled to be able to answer some long-held questions and share new layers of the story that viewers won’t see coming.”

It’s another great step in the Power universe that bolsters the franchise more.

How does this fit into the Power franchise?

After Power ended in 2020, STARZ expanded it into a successful franchise. It started with Power Book II: Ghost, picking up right after the original series as Ghost’s son, Tariq, ends up following in his father’s footsteps as a drug runner. The show ended its four-season run in 2024.

Power Book III: Raising Kanan tells the origins of the character. It was set in 1991 and showed how Kanan (Mekai Curtis) got started in the criminal world. The show will end with its fifth season, due later this year, and reportedly, Curtis will reprise the role for Power: Origins.

Power Book IV: Force followed Tommy after the series as he made his way to Chicago and started to build up his own operation. That show will end with its upcoming third season. There were plans for more spinoffs, such as Influence, but that was canceled.

There’s no word on when Power: Origins will arrive, as the show still needs to cast the younger James and Tommy, but it is likely to premiere in 2026. That continues Power’s dominance on STARZ as a major crime show franchise that keeps on going!
