Professor T continues season 4 with Jasper processing DI Doncker's death, and Dan is barely holding on after the loss of his love. Dr. Goldberg is having her own issues breaking up with her husband, which is a shock since we never knew he existed before!

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for Professor T season 4, episode 2

Adelaide is in Venice but blames Jasper for ruining her grand tour by not helping Aunt Zelda. Jasper relents and takes Aunt Zelda to a swanky retirement home (with lots of tennis and vintage Jaguars), to visit a new beau, Peter, whom she met after Wilfred stood her up on a date. Coincidentally, Ms. Snares is also Peter’s daughter.  The married three times, Aunty Zelda is not to Ms. Snare’s liking.

Jasper takes an interest in Marie, a schoolgirl, and Kate, the retirement home director’s daughter. Her wrist is bandaged, likely from a suicide attempt.

Does the Dean still hold a torch for Aunt Zelda in Professor T season 4?

Ms. Snares finds Wilfred on the roof (which is where everyone at Cambridge goes in their off time, (apparently), and she casually drops into conversation that Zelda is dating her father, in a not-so-subtle hint to make the Dean jealous. Wilfred then finds an old box with pictures of Zelda from her hippy days, and an old engagement ring, presumably meant for her at one point.

Meanwhile in Professor T season 4, episode 2, Abbey, daughter of one of the residents, appears to have been murdered by Eddy, a confused man recently diagnosed with dementia. Abbey was found barricaded in Eddy’s apartment, where he was discovered with the murder weapon in his hand. Initially, Eddy is the prime suspect until DI Winters and DS Highsmith find out that Julie, the receptionist, is having an affair with Abbey’s husband.

Bruno and Abbey were involved in a pricey divorce and fighting for custody of their daughter, Poppy. The team thinks Bruno set up Eddy to take the fall for a murder he orchestrated. Of course, Jasper thinks the police got it all wrong, saying Bruno would never deprive Poppy of her mother and commit such a terrible crime.

Ms. Snares is taking on more of a role in Professor T this season

Ms. Snares (in a delightfully fiendish up-leveled role this season) creates her own suspect board with a web of all the suspects and their possible motives. She thinks the director, Kate, may not be what she seems.

Dan gives the Professor a stern warning not to get involved with the case, considering he almost got killed last time when he went rogue. Dan complains to DCI Goswami, so Goswami sentences them to therapy with Dr. Goldberg, hoping to smooth out some of the bad feelings between them. During the session, Jasper taps, Dan scowls, and little is accomplished.

Dr. Goldberg tells Dan about Jasper’s increased intrusive thoughts after Lisa’s death, trying to explain away his inability to deal with the emotional complexity involved in police work. Dan is having none of it, so Jasper invites Dan to attend his lectures in criminology at Cambridge. Dan says yes.

It turns out that Poppy was acting out at school because of her parents’ divorce and was bullying Marie, which caused Marie to self-harm. When Kate spoke to Abbey about it, Abbey dismissed it. Kate wanted to teach Abbey a lesson, so she locked Abbey in Eddy’s room, and he attacked her because he was confused, thinking she was an intruder.

Although she technically didn’t kill Abbey, Kate overheard the whole thing through the door. Ms. Snares points out to the Professor that Kate could have prevented Abbey’s death and questions the fairness of the manslaughter charge. The Professor gives her a nod, which is as good as telling her she's right. A far better reaction than the police ever get!

Professor T airs on Sundays at 8/7c on PBS
