With Reacher’s cover blown, he needs to find another way to get to Quinn in Reacher season 3, episode 7. It brings Neagley back into the mission, but there are also tensions as Duffy makes a decision that goes against Reacher’s need for vengeance.

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for Reacher season 3, episode 7.

The penultimate episode wasn’t quite as action-packed as we would usually expect. However, it was still a great episode that gave Reacher a moment of candor and honesty. He makes it clear that his need for revenge is going against everything else that is going on. While he wants to get Theresa back, he cannot let the ATF take Quinn into custody. The man needs to pay.

Reacher sees what Theresa means to Duffy in Reacher season 3, episode 7

The start of the episode sees Reacher and Duffy head out on their mission to LA to get to Theresa. Only, they don’t end up going there. They end up driving to Theresa’s grandmother’s place, so that Duffy can check up on the woman and offer her some sort of update. It’s not the update of “your granddaughter is here,” but there is a sense of hope that Theresa will come back home.

This is more of a chance for Reacher to see what Theresa actually means to Duffy. It’s more than care for the CI. Duffy cares for the family as well, and because of that, Reacher promises that getting back Theresa is important to him, because it’s important to Duffy.

It’s clear that Reacher is catching feelings for Duffy, and Neagley sees it when she turns up. In fact, Neagley calls Reacher out on his feelings for Duffy — but she probably wasn’t expecting to hear that Reacher felt for Kohl the way he feels for Neagley now. Reacher may seem like a lone wolf, but he has a lot of heart for the people who prove they deserve it.

Duffy needs to call in the ATF in Reacher

Duffy decides that it’s finally time to call in the ATF for help dealing with Duffy. This isn’t what Reacher wants, especially as Reacher is able to get Neagley to meet with Beck to get Beck on the side of taking Quinn down. Beck will do it as long as Richard is protected, and Reacher can promise that — Richard didn’t do anything wrong, and Reacher can see that.

Calling in the ATF is something Reacher isn’t happy about at all, especially when he learns that the ATF just want to arrest Quinn. Reacher doesn’t want justice; he wants revenge. It’s the first time we’ve really seen a case get so personal to him, even when the case involved the murder of his own brother. Quinn has haunted Reacher for so long, and he needs to see this end the way it was supposed to all those years ago.

While he promises Duffy that he will stand back and allow the ATF to do things, he has his own plans. He gets his own sniper rifle so that he can take out Quinn. However, a phone call to Neagley makes it clear that Quinn is one step ahead of everyone, and I’m really surprised that Reacher hadn’t considered this in the first place.

Quinn has set up a fake buy to lure the ATF into a trap

During the episode, we saw that Quinn made it clear that Beck and Richard had to be at the house. Why would it be so important to have Richard there as well? Quinn says it’s to keep Richard in his sights, because Richard is his only bargaining chip. However, there’s clearly another reason.

Quinn seems not to remember who Reacher actually is, but has he started to remember things? Is it possible that he knows what Reacher will do once he finds out that the buy set up is fake? He needs Richard in the house to use him as a shield, right?

Of course, Quinn knew that Reacher would probably find out that the “buy” wasn’t the real thing. He wouldn’t know that Reacher had Neagley following the buyers, but he would know that Reacher is a smart man.

Either way, Quinn has set up a fake buy to lure the ATF into a trap. Neagley telling Reacher that she was still following the buyers made it clear that this was the case, and now Reacher needs to get back to Beck’s house in time to take out Quinn once and for all. He’ll need to save Theresa in the process, as she does deserve to get home after everything that’s happened to her for the sake of Duffy.

Reacher airs on Thursdays on Prime Video.
