Don’t you just hate when a new show arrives on Netflix? Well, you love it, but you hate it. After all, you never know whether it’s safe to get invested or not. The great thing about Run Away is that there’s no risk.
The new Harlan Coben series is now available to stream on Netflix in full. All eight episodes dropped as a binge-watch, and it’s becoming a New Year’s Day tradition to binge-watch one of these shows. Of course, a new show means questions about investing, but you can get invested in this one without a fear of abrupt endings.
Run Away is a miniseries
Like the previous Harlan Coben shows on Netflix, Run Away has been billed as a miniseries. That means it’s designed to be just the one season, so you can feel free to get invested in it. There’s no need to worry about it suddenly being canceled.
Of course, if you enjoy the performances, then you may be disappointed. You’ll want to see the characters back, and you’ll want to know what comes next. The problem now is that you know that won’t happen.
However, in the end, it’s a good thing. Miniseries work well because they allow that confirmation that the questions will be answered at the end.
Run Away is based on a single book
It’s not just about knowing answers will come. Bringing a miniseries means that a one-book story isn’t dragged on longer than it needs to be. Run Away by Harlan Coben is a one-book story. Everything is resolved by the end of the novel. No, it’s not necessarily the way that we’d all like, but none of Coben’s novels are. They’re written with reality and crime twists in mind.
By Netflix honoring the miniseries format, it means that each of the Coben adaptations have been able to stick pretty true to the book. There’s no need to stretch the plot or add another mystery for characters to go through in a second season. And we know there’s only so much that one singular character can face in a lifetime. This isn’t a soapy drama!
There are plenty more books to adapt. Netflix loves to do it. Just look at the likes of Safe, Fool Me Once, and many more shows that have arrived on Netflix. Run Away is the latest to add to your collection, and we’ll have to wait to see what comes out next New Year’s Day!
