It looks like the band is getting back together again for the upcoming FX crime series The Shards. Television mogul Ryan Murphy is adapting the novel, which is based on American Psycho author Bret Easton Ellis’s coming-of-age semi-autobiography into a psychological thriller. So far, it is starring quite an assembly of cast members. Time will only tell how many others will be added to the list.
For now, Wes Bentley, who has appeared in three seasons of Murphy’s American Horror Story (AHS), and Evan Rachel Wood (Westworld) are slated to star in,The Shards, which is set to premiere in 2026. Rounding out the cast, who have major roles, are Igby Rigney, Graham Campbell, Richard Gere’s son Homer Gere, and Cindy Crawford’s lookalike daughter Kaia Gerber, who also gave praiseworthy performances in AHS. Interestingly, Gere and Gerber’s parents, Richard and Cindy, were once married to one another.

Everything you need to know about The Shards
Bret Easton Ellis’s story (or thinly veiled memoir) is set around his high school senior year at in 1981 at Buckley, a posh prep school which is located in Sherman Oaks, California. Life takes a dramatic turn for Bret and his rich friends, homecoming king and queen, Thom Wright (Campbell) and Susan, who many speculate will likely be played by Gerber. Rigney will portray a young Bret. Homer Gere will play the part of Robert Mallory, the new Buckley student who Ellis suspects is The Trawler, a serial killer terrorizing and murdering teenage girls.
While it is not known who the two-time Emmy nominee Evan Rachel Wood will portray, sources confirmed to Deadline that she has a recurring role. Wes Bentley will play powerful film producer Terry, the father of Bret’s girlfriend Debbie (Hayes Warner).

The era of serial killers
Unfortunately, serial killers running rampant during the 1980s were all too commonplace, particularly in California. While no one who called himself “The Trawler,” Bret Easton Ellis certainly could have drawn inspiration, if you will, from any number of psychopaths who have had or will probably have documentaries made about them.
The Golden State Killer, for example, was a predator who authorities suspected committed at least 13 murders in California throughout the '70s and '80s. The infamous Richard Ramirez, otherwise known as the Night Stalker, assaulted an estimated 25 victims in mid-1980s Los Angeles and San Francisco.
No doubt, viewers of the series will be donning their own sleuthing caps to try to place real names to faces in this loosely based autobiographical television series.
The Shards is slated to arrive on FX in 2026.
