There is still 1 huge concern about the SWAT Exiles project as a whole

The SWAT spinoff is starting production without a home.

The news of SWAT Exiles was met with mixed feelings, and for some good reasons. While it was exciting to know that the franchise would live on, the disrespect shown to the original cast led to a foul taste in the mouth.

Despite all the excitement around the SWAT spinoff series, there has been one thing that has stood out to me. It’s all about the lack of home.

Production is set to start up in Los Angeles very soon, and we’re getting more news about cast members involved. However, none of this is any good if there’s not somewhere for the show to air.

Sony hasn’t found a network or streamer to take on SWAT Exiles yet

As soon as SWAT season 8 ended, Sony was quick to announce the news that SWAT Exiles was happening. It’s a spinoff, focused on a new team that needs Hondo’s help to shape them into a great and effective one.

Well, Hondo is now retired, and he’s been forced into that retirement. He doesn’t exactly want to come back, but he does, although we’ll get to see two generations collide.

This all sounds like fun, but there’s a glaring issue. While announcing the series, one thing was made clear: there isn’t a home just yet. The idea of starting production without a home for the series to air is a huge risk, as there’s a good chance that nowhere will end up taking it up. The entire project could be a waste of time for everyone involved.

Hostages
“Hostages” – SWAT’s anti-terror sting operation at a bus station is thrown into chaos when volatile felons, fleeing the police, burst in and take the bus station hostage. Hondo and the team must play along, maintaining their cover as hostages while they work to ferret out the terrorist in their midst. Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Bennett redoubles her efforts to force Hicks out as SWAT’s commander, on S.W.A.T., Friday, March 14 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on

Why would Sony start work on the SWAT spinoff?

There is one main reason for the rush on SWAT Exiles. It’s to help preserve the 200 industry jobs in Los Angeles. Had Sony taken the time to find a home for the series, it would have meant studios would need to close and completely shut down. After all, this idea for a project could end up never getting off the ground.

By running the risk of producing the series first, there is a bit more push to get someone to take it up. And if that doesn’t happen, maybe there’s an option for it to go straight to DVD or Digital to purchase, instead.

While the idea is flawed, there is a good reason for it. It’s easy to forget the hundreds of people that end up working on a set behind the scenes. These aren’t just the camera crew and directors, but also the runners, lighting crew, crafts crew, and more. It’s why I will never wish for a show’s cancellation, even if I think it’s a bad show or that it’s gone on a little too long, because I will always hope that the hundreds of people involved can stay in jobs, especially in this market.
