SWAT isn't new tonight, but a return date is in sight (March 28, 2025)

The wait for SWAT season 8, episode 16 continues. There isn’t a new episode airing tonight, Friday, March 28.

To make it even worse, there isn’t even a rerun of the series tonight. Sports continues to pre-empt everything, with the NCAA 2025 Basketball Tournament taking over the CBS screens across the country. This break does help SWAT’s schedule, though, as there would need to be some breaks to spread out all the episodes remaining to the May finale date.

When will SWAT return with new episodes?

The wait for new episodes is almost over. CBS has already confirmed that this break will end next week. There will be a new episode on Friday, April 4.

There is another break coming, though. Fire Country will air a two-hour season finale on Friday, April 25. This means that SWAT will need to take a break for a week. After that, 20-Squad will continue to take down the bad guys until Friday, May 16, when it will get a two-hour series finale.

CBS is still to reveal details of the episode at the time of writing this. There’s a lot to come in the final set of episodes.

“Hostages” – SWAT’s anti-terror sting operation at a bus station is thrown into chaos when volatile felons, fleeing the police, burst in and take the bus station hostage. Hondo and the team must play along, maintaining their cover as hostages while they work to ferret out the terrorist in their midst. Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Bennett redoubles her efforts to force Hicks out as SWAT’s commander, on S.W.A.T., Friday, March 14 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on

SWAT season 9 still isn’t happening

Yes, it is a series finale. CBS hasn’t U-turned on the cancellation this time, and no other network has stepped up to save it yet.

This is disappointing news for fans. After all, this is a show that we would still love to watch. CBS just sabotaged itself by putting the series on at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Fridays.

That doesn’t mean we should give up on the show. It’s important to praise the cast and crew for their hard work. At least we know that this season finale has been written to work as a series finale if it was needed, so there will be closure.
