SWAT isn't new tonight, but there is a bit of good news (Jan. 3)

While some networks are bringing their shows back already, that's not the case for CBS. There isn't a new episode of SWAT season 8 on tonight, Friday, Jan. 3.

“Human Interest” – Tan is left reeling when his girlfriend is kidnapped, and 20-Squad must race to track down a violent cartel leader who may be behind the abduction, on S.W.A.T., Friday, Nov. 15 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on-demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on-demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs)*. It’s the start of a new year, and that means we’re ready for midseason premieres. There is some bad news for SWAT fans, though. There won’t be a new episode on tonight, Friday, Jan. 3.

While the series will return this month, it’s not going to be until the end of the month. However, we’re not going to be completely SWAT-less throughout the month of January. We just need to deal with older episodes.

SWAT has a rerun on tonight, Friday, Jan. 3

There is at least going to be an episode airing tonight. It’s all about reruns right now, and we’ll get a rerun of the season 8 premiere tonight. Titled “Vanished,” this episode sees a bus full of high school students kidnapped.

This case was on the more personal side for Hondo. His former high school football coach was the driver of the bus, so he was willing to do everything he could to save the day.

Meanwhile, we get to meet the new additions to the team. Of course, Hicks has concerns about one team member in particular. With Annie Ilonzeh upped to series regular for the rest of SWAT season 8, this is certainly a good time to check out the premiere again and see the introduction once more.

Twenty Squad
“Twenty Squad” – SWAT faces their deadliest adversary yet when a violent cell of extremists looks to extract vengeance by blowing up half of Los Angeles, potentially killing thousands. Still reeling from the anger and outrage directed at him by his own community, Hondo questions if he still has what it takes to lead 20-Squad, adding to the fear that he won’t be able to pull the team together in time to save the city, on the seventh season finale of the CBS Original series S.W.A.T., Friday, May

SWAT is on at the later time tonight

There is something to keep in mind when it comes to the rerun. It won’t air at 8 p.m. ET/PT. With the series moving to the later timeslot, the reruns will also move to that later slot. SWAT is taking over Blue Bloods’ former timeslot, which means episodes will air at 10 pm. ET/PT.

I’m in two minds about this timeslot. It’s a difficult one, for sure. SWAT has struggled with this timeslot multiple times when airing on other nights. However, this Friday night slot has served Blue Bloods well for a long time. Can SWAT also benefit?

SWAT returns on Friday, Jan. 31 at 10/9c on CBS. Catch up on Paramount+.
